What did you do this past week?

I spent most of the time this past week preparing for my exams and doing class projects. I started looking into the requirements and learning the tools for the next phase of our project. I was a little sleep deprived, but it’s been better since the end of Wednesday.

What’s in your way?

Since everyone on our team has seemed to be busy preparing for exams this past week, our group might be a little behind in terms of the next milestone. However, we are planning on doing it during the Spring Break anyway, so I think we can handle that.

What will you do next week?

I am staying at my apartment on West Campus for the upcoming week. I will stay focused on the work I have to do for my team projects for different classes. Books and movies are also on my to-do list.

What was your experience of Test #1a?

My performance on Test #1a aligned well with my expectation. I was stuck on one question for pretty long and was not able to pass several test cases for that question. Thinking about it right now, it might be better to use a brute-force strategy to pass more test cases first instead of wasting valuable time figuring out something that might be better and more concise. Test-taking strategy is always important. Don’t go down a rabbit hole on an exam.

What made you happy this week?

It made me happy to be able to have the extended Spring Break to take a break from this stressful week. For the past two days I have been going to sleep earlier and getting up earlier. This new sleeping schedule has helped with my brain functioning. I managed to not work on stuff sitting on my bed given my bed is less than one meter away from my desk (my workstation at home). That has been a huge efficiency boost. Two days ago, the refrigerator at my apartment was empty, except for some expired food that I somehow forgot to cook. I had a lot of random shipping boxes. And my desk, and room, looked really messy. I spent the entire day yesterday dealing with all that. Now it’s way better.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

Working from home could be difficult since there are a lot of distractions. Discipline is very important. Set up mental deadlines and to-do lists for each day. Keep the communication going with teammates via Slack. If you find yourself restless (or your mind wandering when it shouldn’t be doing that), shutdown the social media for a bit and go do some readings.

Also, I found something good from this week’s Perusall reading. It says derivative classes should establish pre-conditions that are less restrictive than the base classes and post-conditions more restrictive than the base classes. This feels like a good point.
